How to beat the storm...

 Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Have you been hit by Hurricane Sandy? Luckily, my school is located far enough away where we are not getting the worst of the storm. It is cold but very doable.

I know its terrible but as soon as internet/power goes out I never know what to do with myself. At this point I even read on my Ipad which only has a set amount of battery life. My go to entertainment in these kind of situations? Music!

Ive put together some mixes just for you!

Disclaimer: I have a very specific taste in music. I tend to favor alternative pop/rock with a female lead if that makes any sense.

  1. Dog Days Are Over by Florence + The Machine
  2. Send Me On My Way by Rusted Root
  3. 5 Years Time by Noah and The Whale
  4. On the Radio by Regina Spektor
  5. King of Anything by Sara Bareilles
  6. In the Sun by She & Him
  7. Baby Love by The Supremes
  8. Piazza, New York Catcher by Belle & Sebastian
  9. Good People by Jack Johnson
  10. The Way I Am by Ingrid Michaelson
  11. Shake It Out by Florence + The Machine
  12. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da by The Beatles
  13. Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae

It takes me a while for a song to make it into my rotation. I prefer to mix in some old songs with current ones and Regina Spektor/Ingrid Michaelson always makes me smile.

Please respond today with a playlist of your own or a song that makes you smile!

Scarf weather!

 Monday, October 29, 2012

I hate snow. I have always prefered warmer weather and with the hurricane coming the temperature has dropped severly from the 80 it was here not even a week ago. The only upside? I finally get to break out my favorite scarves.

Whether you want to find a scarf that is more bang for your buck or pick a more designer choice you cant go wrong with this season's styles.

My personal favorite scarves are Lilly Pulitzer Murfees. They are lightweight but still very warm and I love to wear bright florals all the way into the winter!

This season I have been seeing a lot of color blocking, ikat, and infinity styles. Chunky scarves are very in-trend and make a great alternative for very warm weather.

What is your favorite scarf? Which style of these are you loving this season?

Shopping for Fall

 Wednesday, October 24, 2012

Its almost Halloween. Leaves have already turned and fall is most certainly here. I have already started to swap my lilly's for more substantial and warm fall clothing.

Here are some of my picks for fall.

I am loving these chocolate brown Tory Burch boots. In general I find myself gravitating towards riding boots. Tory Burch has become the go-to for the preppy boots. Unfortunately the boots are not the cheapest pair but they are of good quality and this brown suede will not go out of style.

The American Eagle Toggle coat is the perfect fall jacket. Toggles are timeless by nature and I actually have and wear this exact coat in red. Amercian Eagle coats are well priced and warm- I would definitely recommend them.

This lace skirt from Modcloth is deceptively fall. Lace is current and modern while at the same time very fashion foward. I love scalloped and interesting edges to skirts and this particular lace skirt is calling my name. Modcloth is a great online fashion resource that is growing every day. The prices range from low costs to designer but you can find a lot of great finds at a mid level price point.

Last but not least I love this Fashion Framework Bag on Modcloth. The satchel style is very vintage and the zippers and leather touches are very now. The navy is the perfect color for fall and I can see pairing this bag with a good majority of my fall wadrobe. The bag is vegan-friendly which means it is not real leather but if I saw someone wearing it I would never be able to tell the difference. Who doesn't love buying products that compare with styles that feature much higher price tags!

What have you been loving this fall? Have you seen any must-haves pop up in your favorite store?

The Long Awaited Dorm Room Pictures

 Friday, October 19, 2012

It's official. I have been in school for a month and a half and have yet to show y'all my dorm room. This has been the most emailed request lately.

Without further ado here they are:

Isnt it cute? My roommate and I decided to co-ordinate our bedding for this year. (I'm the bottom bunk) She smartly picked up this Calypso bedding from Bed Bath and Beyond and I knew I had to get the matching set. I found the fantastic wicker boat at a marshalls store and knew it would be the perfect accent on our walls!

I am living this year in my sorority house in a double. The closets are very large for a dorm room and yet I still filled mine up almost immediately. Above our desks (my roommate's is out of this picture) we hung two Lilly Pulitzer lanterns.

How did y'all decorate your dorm rooms in college? (for those still in college and those lovely readers who have recently graduated)

I am a Windows Champion!

 Wednesday, October 17, 2012

I have some very exciting news to share. I was recently chosen to join the Windows Champion program! I am a Windows blogging Ambassador and over the course of next year I will be writing about my expeirience with some cutting-edge Windows products.

As part of the program I will be sent a Windows computer. To be honest, I love my Mac and a little scared to make a transition to my new Windows computer. I do not yet know which exact model I will be recieving but I am very excited to see the new technology Microsoft has come out with. I will be blogging about my experiences with the PC and I will be honest in my posts.

When it came time for me to get a computer for college I was told to get a Mac. With my campus being a little more than 50% macs it seemed like the right decision. Since coming to my liberal arts school my mac and I have not gotten along. It is so hard for me to connect to the school's wifi! My friends with PC's have not had the problem of wifi-dropping so I am hoping that my new PC will be better suited for my school's internet. I do not think I gave PC's a fair chance when I looked at computers so going into this program I have an open mind towards the Windows laptop. I cant wait to share with you about which computer I will be getting and my journey with it!

Are you a PC or Mac user?

The Pink Giraffe Monogrammed Watch Review and Discount Code!

 Monday, October 15, 2012

Hello my lovelies. I hope everyone had a splendid weekend. My school had a short break so I was lucky enough to visit home for a couple days. I baked a ton, went shopping, and best of all got to spend some quality time with my loved ones.

When I came back to campus I unpacked and reorganized much of my closet. When my wardrobe is neat and clean it is easier for me to choose outfits in the morning. I try to pick out my outfits the night before so that I do not have to dress in a hurry. Lately I have been centering my outfits around accessories I have been itching to wear and my outfit for tomorrow is no different.

I am in love with my Pink Giraffe monogrammed watch and have been wearing it with everything.

Pink Giraffe is an awesome one-stop monogrammed online shop. I waste way to much time browsing Pink Giraffe's products and wishing that I had the wallet to afford all of the monogrammed goodies they sell. From monogrammed rainboots to custom iphone cases there are endless possiblities for your monogrammed needs. My personal favorite item they sell however is their monogrammed watches.

From chunky styles to plastic bands, The Pink Giraffe has one of the largest selections of monogrammed watches. To give you some background on my watch habits I have recently becoming infatuated with the fashion and utilitiy of the wrist watch. My father is a watch-lover so I have grown up with him always sporting a watch. I never thought I needed a watch- I used my cell phone- but now that I own a few I realize how useful they really are.

I could not decide what watch I wanted from Pink Giraffe. At $54 the quartz watch is extremely reasonable for a monogrammed creation. Watches are expensive and the idea that at that price point you can custom make your watch makes really great gifts.

The Pink Giraffe packaged my watch in the cutest little box and ribbon.

I could not be happier with my watch. The chunky style is really fashionable and I love that it has the minutes on the face. The monogram looks great and since I tend to wear a lot of pink and blue it matches most of my wardrobe!

Right now The Pink Giraffe is having a sale on their plastic watches. They are only $34 which is a steal for a monogrammed watch. I might have to pick one up myself.

The Pink Giraffe has given all my followers a 10% code (giraffe) so you can snag a watch or any of their other goodies at a discount! How nice! What Pink Giraffe goodie are you dying to get? Which monogrammed watch would you order?

A delicious treat! Fairytale Brownies Review

 Monday, October 8, 2012

I'm a college student and you know what that means. Crazy tests, parties, and some honestly awesome bonding sessions with my good friends. Those intimate occasions with my classmates? Well unfortunately for my diet most of those kodak moments include snacking on some comfort foods.

I am a baker, so living somewhere where I dont have daily access to a kitchen is sometimes hard for me. I crave some home-cooked desserts and meals. Some parents try to mail their creations to students but freshness gets lost in the transaction. I have always wanted to try some mail-order desserts and I was lucky enough to review a sprite batch from Fairytale Brownies.

Fairytale Brownies are gourmet brownies that aim to bring joy to every person who gets to taste the high quality desert. Every cookie, truffle, and brownie is hand-baked with care and packaged to perfection.

Seriously the packaging is so cute. I love the Fairytale  Brownies purple foil and logo. The package included a purple gift box and ice pack to keep the brownies nice and fresh.

The Sprites Dozen comes with twelve delicious flavors of Fairytale brownies in a purple silver-lined box.

Ready for the mouth-watering pics?
Disclamer: These brownies were as delicious as they look.

I gathered my team of eager taste-testers, A.K.A. my sorority sisters, and we got down and dirty into deliciousness.

The favorites?

I loved the Raspberry Swirl Sprite. I have never had a better raspberry brownie. Seriously delicious!

The Mint Chocolate Sprite hit the spot for the majority of my team. We all loved the chocolate and mint mix and thought that the drizzled brownie look was a nice touch.

The classic cream cheese brownie was spot on. This sprite was a definite crowd-pleaser.

Overall I couldn't be happier with my sprite dozen. I thought the range in flavors was quite impressive. Each brownie was remarkably fresh tasting. You would never know these were shipped and not made that day! I would definitely recommend Fairytale brownies for any brownie lover.

You cant go wrong trying all of their original flavors like I did. From espresso to chocolate chip there is something for every brownie lover. Each sprite is individually wrapped (if you didn't notice from all the wrappers) and coincidentally are easy to share. The Fairytale dozen would make a great care package to your favorite college student or camper.

What flavor would you want to try the most? Caramel, chocolate chip, pecan, toffee nut, walnut or white chocolate?
