Review:: C. Johannesen Bracelet

 Friday, August 31, 2012

Happy Friday my lovelies!

Today I am going to the US Open, which I am very excited about. I play tennis and it is my favorite game to watch but last year I could not attend the Open because I was already in school. This is one reason why I am glad my university starts later than others- I get to enjoy the tennis fun!

I am linking up to Long Distance Loving and wanted to show off what I was wearing this labor day weekend to the Open. I decided on a Lilly Pulitzer Lottie dress, J. Crew cardigan, jacks, and of course my new C. Johannesen bracelet.

C. Johannesen Studio makes custom leather and metal jewelry. Everything that comes out of the studio is one of a kind, well made, and of course fashionable.

I love stores that feature ready to order products. There is definitely something special about knowing your product is unique and made for you. With C.Johannsen Studio this personalization goes more than just monogramming. You can put your favorite quote on something.

When I was a child I would be read Dr. Seuss books and one quote really stuck to my sister and me:

"We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”"

When I realized that C. Johannesen had this quote available on a wrap bracelet I knew that item was for me. The only problem was that I did not think the red leather was for me. This kind of problem would be difficult for other stores on etsy but not for C.Johannesen all you have to do is specify what color leather you want and they will make it for you!

I requested a light brown and when I got the bracelet it was perfect! The wrap bracelet style is my favorite and you can wrap it around your wrists 3-4 times!

The quotes that C.Johannesen features in the studio are of a big range from Hunger Games to Toy Story.
Can I just say how much I love these for a couple! I am all about stacking my bracelets and a row of leather compliments my dainty other bracelets. I always like to put a little edge to offset so much of my girly style. Leather isn't just for men, its a really nice addition to a bracelet stack!

Surprise! I have another bracelet to show you from C.Johannesen. It was so hard to choose which quote I liked most so I am so happy to show you both of my C.Johannesen bracelets!

This other work of art features a beautiful quote from Winnie the Pooh.

The quote reads:
"To my lovelies, “If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together.. there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart.. I'll always be with you.”"

(Do you see why I started this post the way I did?)

I love both of the bracelets so much and would definitely want to buy some of the studios other pieces. Here are some other of my favorite works from C.Johannesen Studio

You say B*tch like its a bad thing! (I love this)

I would definitely recommend the wrap bracelet. It is trendy and personal and if you have a special line that is meaning to you this is the perfect way to show it off. I also think these make a great gift for spouses to show love in a personal way. I feel that the quality of leather is amazing and the workmanship is outstanding. No complaints here!

Which C.Johannesen piece is your favorite? Would you write your own favorite quote on his leather or choose one of the quotes he has chosen?

Swap Anyone? And a lot of other Things!

 Thursday, August 30, 2012

Did anyone see the new Vera Bradley patterns? I have to say I am quite un-impressed. I was never a big Vera fan until Mocha Rouge/Happy Snails collection and then I converted.

Portobello Road
The three patterns are inspired by travel. Out of the three I think I prefer Canyon but under the reasoning that it is for a fall bag! Which new Vera pattern is your favorite?

On Monday I posted about the possibility of hosting a swap here at The Preppy Student. Well I thought about it and decided that it definitely has to happen!

I am going to be hosting
drumroll please......

Thats right! I will be having a swap just for earrings! I love earrings. They are super cheap to ship and are one-size fits all. A win win for gift exchanges.

Here are the rules:
1. A Spending Maximum of $15
2. You can only send 1 pair!
3. Have fun!

Seems reasonable enough. (If you dont have your ears pierced your swap buddy can send clip-ons!)

If you're interested please send me an email to

Sign ups will take place until 9/10

Last but not least I want to add some new books to my library. I usually like Chick-Lit (you know the book version of chick flicks) but am always up for something new. Right now I am finishing Tina Fey's book and boy is it good!

What have you read that you recommend? I'll appreciate any suggestion!

Review:: JewelIQ Larrisa Necklace

 Wednesday, August 29, 2012

I've mentioned this multiple times on the blog but my favorite thing to buy is Jewelry. I just love how easy it is to pack and store and how little space it takes up in a crowded dorm room. I can easily pack all of my jewelry collection and each piece can change an outfit dramatically.

This summer really has been the summer of Jewelry! From J. Crew Bubble necklaces to classic pieces I have been collecting.

As a follower, to many fashion blogs, I often times see links to jewelry sites that the blogger frequents. I am not going to name-names but usually I am left unimpressed. Then one day I clicked on JewelIQ and I could not stop browsing.

JewelIQ is an online store that aims to bring high priced style to an affordable price point. Everything at JewelIQ is under $25 shipped! I mean thats fantastic but I have to say I was a little skeptical. How nice can the jewelry be under that budget?

I was blown away. I decided on getting the Larrisa Necklace at a price point of $20. The Larissa is made up of a green acrylic stone, and is on a gold chain finished with a lobster clasp. It reminds me of one of my favorite jewelry designers- Amrita Singh.

The quality surprisingly rivals Singh. I could not believe that this necklace did not cost $150+ and instead was $20. The green stone is beautiful and this necklace is seriously a stunner. There is a gradient detailing inside of the green stones that make the necklace look much more expensive.

I think green necklaces are perfect because they really stand out on the classic LBD. Heres how I am planning on wearing my JewelIQ necklace:

nyc out

I would whole-hear-tingly tell you to go look right now at JewelIQ! The jewelry is amazing, on trend, and steals at the prices!

Review:: My Name Necklace Monogram Bracelet!

 Tuesday, August 28, 2012

"When Charlotte really liked somebody she said their whole name. It helped her picture their future monogrammed towels."- Sex and The City.

I cannot get enough of monogrammed detailing. Every time I see my initials on something it makes the item so much more personal. Monograms are not always that expensive and this summer I have become infatuated with monogram style jewelry.

One of the most prominent personalized jewelry stores on the web is I already have an awesome monogram necklace so I chose to order a monogrammed bracelet.

I decided on the Sterling Silver Monogrammed Bracelet. When it came in the mail the bracelet arrived in the cutest little gift box.

The monogram bracelet came in sizes 5.5, 6.5, and 7.5 inches so there is definitely a size for everyone! The actual monogram is small and dainty at .5"x.8" which is a great size on my wrist.

The Monogram Bracelet's quality is great! I cant believe that this beautiful bracelet, that is sterling silver, has a price point of only $38. I think the bracelet looks much more expensive and considering how well made it is- its a steal!

I cant wait to wear this monogram bracelet! Its so perfect on my wrists and I love the size of the monogram.

What is your favorite monogrammed style from My Name Necklaces? Do you wear monogrammed Jewelry? If yes, do you prefer a monogram necklace, earrings, or bracelet!

Jewelry Swap Link Up!

 Monday, August 27, 2012

One of my favorite things about being a blogger is meeting all the wonderful ladies (and men) who help make up the blogosphere! Since starting The Preppy Student I have met some truly wonderful people and every chance I get I try to meet more and more. There is definitely communities within bloggers and I hope that I can one day become one in the subgroup of "Preppy" bloggers.

When Kendall from The Life of a Not So Ordinary Wife posted about having a jewelry swap I knew I was in. Swaps are a great way to get to know other bloggers through the "secret santa" like experience. For this particular swap we were given one blogger to get jewelry for under a price limit.

I had so much fun picking out my gift for my Swap buddy! (blog post here

The best part of this whole swap? The wonderful Kelli from Eat Pray Read Love sent me the cutest necklace and note! I loved what she got me.

I wore it the next day with a hot pink jcrew t-shirt!

Its a super fun little flower necklace with pearl accents. Its adorable! Of course I had to model it! Anything with pearls is definitely for me and I know this necklace will come in handy for a couple mixers :)

Thanks Kelli!
Would any of my lovely followers be interested in doing a swap? Id love to organize one once school starts!

Review:: Salmon Cove

 Sunday, August 26, 2012

Good Morning all my beautiful Preppy Student followers. I am in the midst of packing for the big move. I am trying to remedy the fact that for the 2nd year in a row I am trying to bring down way too much clothing to my dorm room. I mean its hard for me to part with some of my items because if I leave it at home I know that I will want to wear it- it's always the same dilemma.

My strategy this year is to only pack for one and 1/2 months. By packing for that period I will pack all my lillys, end of summer clothes, and light fall apparel. One of staples I know will accompany me is my Salmon Cove green cable neck sweater.

Salmon Cove is a great brand that specializes in preppy clothing that will remain classic and in fashion. I love their motto: "The idea for Salmon Cove spawned to create a fun, distinctive, confidence-inspiring clothing brand that would stand the test of time". I think the preppy lifestyle is in itself classic because preps value styles that have been around for many decades and stay true to femininity.

With all my lillys in bright colors its hard for me to transition some of the summer patterns into fall. Thats where sweaters come in handy. This green Salmon Cove sweater is the perfect shade of green to match the Lillys and at the same time transitioning the item into fall.

The sweater is made of 100% cotton and features the Salmon Cove logo- a cute little salmon! It has a cuff hem that makes it super flattering.

I love the material and weight of this sweater. It is utterly perfect for fall. If you dont like sweaters you can always wear some of Salmon Cove's other items:

Here is an outfit I have planned with the sweater:

What Salmon Cove item is your favorite?
